Once upon a time, my boy
Blake had a vision. While sitting there watching TV....Nickelodeon's Double Dare
2000 Family Challenge to be exact, Blake decides, "Hmmm, that would be really cool to
do!"
Later, while at his Boy Scout
meeting, his Scoutmaster mentions, "Hey, would anyone like to audition for
Nickelodeon's Double Dare 2000 Family Challenge? The DD 2000 Audition Tour will be in
Providence, RI in a few weeks."
Blake says, "Heck YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" He brings home the information sheet!
Frankly, there were about a
bizillion different reasons Susan and I could site on why we probably shouldn't go to the
auditions. We had soccer (x2). We had just purchased our RV and needed to go
pick it up. Or, how about the fact that I was working on a paper for my Master's
Degree program. Besides, who wants to get slimed and gacked and gooped?
Heyyyyyy, wait a sec.....I would!!
So, the next thing you know, the
Roos family is off to a local mall for the Audition. The info sheet explained that
only the first 100 families would be able to audition between a 2 hour time period in the
morning. We got there 2 minutes before the auditions opened and jumped into the
lonnnnngggggg line!!!
We filled out the application in
line and read another sheet.
It worked like this:
(1) The audition consisted of a small interview followed by a tiny physical
challenge. Interviewers would be looking for families that exhibited: teamwork,
enthusiasm, and fun loving.
(2) 8 Families would be selected based on the above criteria. Selectees would win
Nickelodeon T-shirts!
(3) Those 8 families would then undergo a single elimination tournament to determine the
winner. Jason Harris, the show's host on TV hosted the mini-game shows to determine
the winner!! At each successive level, winning families would win addtional prizes (Round
2: Hat, Round 3: Jackets). The winner of the whole shebang would win a trip to
Orlando to appear in the TV show!
We Won!!!!!!!
There were actually 140 families who tried out for the show! We couldn't believe
it...but we're off to Florida. We've been told to expect to head down there sometime
at the end of July. We'll let you all know by posting our travel dates, etc.
